"One UI Home" is Samsung’s default launcher, built into their Galaxy devices—including your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. It's what controls the home screen, app drawer, widgets, recent apps, and overall look and feel of the phone's interface:

  • Horizontal home screen pages: By default, the home screens scroll left and right, not vertically
  • App drawer with vertical scrolling
  • Samsung’s signature layout and icons
  • Supports Samsung-exclusive features like Edge Panels, Good Lock customization modules, and DeX
  • Deep integration with Samsung services and apps (e.g., Bixby, Samsung Free)

App drawer

Samsung’s One UI Home lets you choose how the app drawer behaves, so what you’re seeing is likely due to a specific setting.

By default, One UI Home offers two layout options. Change this setting by:

long-press home screen background » Settings » Home screen layout

Option 1: Home and Apps screens

  • This is usually the default setting: Swipe up (or tap the "Apps" icon if enabled) to access the app drawer, where all apps live
  • You can choose which apps/widgets appear on your home screen
  • This is the classic Android style.

Option 2: Home screen only

Now, all your apps will be shown on the home screen - You canot remove them from here.

Folder grid

At

long-press home screen background » Settings

The menu Folder grid refers to how many icons can be displayed within a folder. Usual options:

  • 3x4
  • 4x4
  • 5x4

Hide apps on Home and Apps screens

The home screen menu as an option Hide apps on Home and Apps screens. At first, this seems strange. On second thought, I use it to hide apps that I cannot uninstall (so I am not reminded all the time about this annoyance). Specifically:

  • Google Meet
  • Google Messages
  • Internet (Samsung browser)
  • Smart Switch (Samsung)
  • Store (Samsung).

Nova Launcher doesn't offer this functionality.

At

The menu Home screen grid allow you to choose how many icons can fit on the home screen. The maximum on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, is 5x6 - Not very impressive.

Media page

The media page is what is Google Discover by default - A whole new level to make your phone addictive (at least, for me).
